The Syllabus

TKD Kids uses the values of Taekwon do – as described in the tenets of Taekwon do – Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable spirit to help children reach their potential. The syllabus teaches the following skills

 

Life Skills

Independence

Learning how to do things independently: Get dressed, tie their Taekwon-Do belt, prepare for school or Taekwon-Do, get washed, tidy  up etc.

Being Organised

Teaching Children to understand why it is important to be organised. Kids learn Basic Organisation Skills: Grouping; Sorting and Categorising. Organising Space: Tidying Up; Lining Up in Class. Organising Time: Telling the time, Preparing in advance, Basic time management.

Teamwork

Kids learn the definition of a ‘Team’ and ‘Teamwork’, and how to do good teamwork.

Leadership

Children are taught the definition of ‘Leadership’, and how to be a good leader.

Following Instructions

Who to follow instructions from. the benefits of following instructions from leaders. They are also taught the Definition of ‘Responsibility’and what to do if you are responsible for a task.

Fitness and Health

Fitness

Kids are taught about Stamina, Stretching, and Strength and are taught  that fitness can be improved by doing exercises.

Hygiene

The definition of ‘Hygiene’ and why hygiene is important.

Healthy Eating

TKD kids are taught  about the ‘Food Groups’and Healthy Eating Habits

Taekwon-Do Skills

Taekwon-Do Techniques

Kids are taught Taekwon-Do Stances: to form Taekwon-Do Tools such as Fist and Knife-Hand. They will constantly practice Taekwon-Do Hand Attacks, Blocks and Kicks so they can understand the importance of repeated practice and a work ethic

Footwork

Kids will learn dodging methods and the  4 basic turning methods

Fundamental Exercises and Patterns

Children Practice basic Taekwon-Do Exercises.

Mind Skills

Memory

Children are made aware memory can be improved by practicing memory games and that important information should be remembered.

Concentration

Concentration can be improved by playing concentration games and doing puzzles.

Taekwon-Do Knowledge

Kids are taught basic knowledge about Taekwon-Do. They have to learn to count to 10 in Korean and Learn basic Taekwon-Do terminology in Korean.

Taekwon-Do Attitudes

The Taekwon-Do Promise

All lessons are started with the Taekwon do kids promise. Kids have to learn the TKD Promise and how to keep the promise. through this they learn how to be kind and caring and have a basic understanding of Empathy, Fairness, Trust, and Respect.

The 5 Tenets of Taekwon-Do

Kids Learn the 5 tenets of Taekwon-Do and how to observe them.

Coordination Skills

Balance

Children practise basic static and non-static balancing exercises to improve agility balance and coordination

Movement

Practise basic arm movements, trunk movements and leg movements.

Aiming

Practice to improve their aim with a punch or kick. Focus: No contact, touch contact and hitting. Learn the Taekwon-Do reference lines

SUPPLEMENTARY SYLLABUS

Such as Danger, Danger Awareness and  Dangerous and Hurtful Behaviour
